“Old Beach” – Where the Town of Virginia Beach began!
When the original Seatack Lifesaving Station was built in 1878 (and rebuilt in 1903) on the beach at 24th Street, surfmen were sent from North Carolina stations to man the new station. The Seatack Station was a hub of growth for the Virginia Beach oceanfront resort area. As families moved to the area to join their surfmen, homes were built near the station and today this area is known as “Old Beach.”
